Default Could someone explain the dishonor system to me?

Not sure if this really belongs in the Q&A section, or if it really belongs here at all and will be closed or whatever, but I am not understanding the Dishonorable Combatant System.

I was merrily playing JQ this evening, and in total I got two "sets" of DH points, the first one for disconnecting in the middle of a match (o.O) (Verizon's fault... always want people to buy Fios ) and the second for reporting a leecher along with two other players who reported the same guy (O.o). I only reported one leecher that day, and that was it.

So I thought that in the case of a disconnection you wouldn't get dishonor points, or so some allies told me a while ago. Apparently not. And from the wiki-

Quote:
Currently this is bugged as even if a third of your team report someone for leeching you still gain dishonor points.
Why is this? I mean, 3/8 people is 37.5%, > 33.3%, right? And is it that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't? I've had to report some leechers in the past, and it didn't give anyone else dishonor points when 33% or more reported.

Also,

Quote:
Dishonor points will remain on the player's account for a total of 60 minutes. If further dishonor points are acquired during this period, that account is once again given the Dishonorable status, though for a longer period of time due to the accumulation of points.

* To clear dishonor points from an account, a player must go 60 minutes without accumulating any new dishonor points.
Does it mean that the effect can stack? So since I got DH for DC'ing, and I let that wear off, then I get more DH for reporting a leecher, do the points stack or something? And if I wait the 60 minutes the stacked points get cleared?

Sorry, I know it's only like, a 5 minute wait time, but I don't get why I got those points when I wasn't leeching, leaving, whatever.

The Dishonorable System is a function designed to enable the "bad" players to piss off the "good" players for not tolerating their "badness" via the /report->"leeching" function, forcing them to swim in their puddle of "failure". In other words, the good players have to stay and lose despite the forseen and inevitable loss because the bad players just don't have the common sense to understand when a match has been assessed as an utter loss (or waste of time). The bad players play to "play", but the good players play to win. The bad players also typically use bad skills and produce bad outcomes because they have little or no understanding of what's prime in PvP, and the Dishonorable Combatant System simply forces good players to endure/tolerate their badness to the point of causing disinterest, rage, and uninstallation of Guild Wars plus seeking another, less annoying game.

Hope that helps shed some light on the subject matter.

We are as likely to see a perfect system as we are to have an end to Windows updates, both are a never ending battle with human nature.
Its better than nothing but I will be surprised if they ever achieve a perfect set of rules.

Generally players will wish to win all the time, if at any point in a match they decide its not going to happen then they will always wish to pull the plug and try again with as little loss of time as possible.

If you get 2 players or 2 teams of the same mind then no match will ever end, We need something to prevent this situation occurring but just what we need seems to mean different things to different players.

Anet think players should accept a losing situation and play it out to the bitter end.
This too is an unreasonable thing to expect of players but I see little alternative to either wasting your time or accepting the temporary dishonour.

In the end just don't report the leechers or w/e cuz unless your whole team does you get screwed. Just play the remaining 5 min match then move on.

From my experience it's a bug that only occer sometimes.

Every time you get DH points it adds up to your existing DH points. If you have 10 or more DH points you'll be unable to join a PvP match for the corresponding number of minutes. If you haven't gotten any new DH points all your existing DH points will be removed permanently.

i've got some knowledge worth knowing. don't report people, cause you'll get dishonorable. avoiding dishonorable also means you have to wait and watch while a a/mo shadow steps across amnoon arena for the 7 remaining minutes of your RA match. gotta make sure your PC and internet connection are at peak performance because if anything goes wrong with either, you'll log back on only to find dishonorable. also make sure your personal schedule for the next hour or so is vacant because even if you have to leave your keyboard for a minute to take a colossal explosive shit, you've just earned dishonorable. it's also advised to avoid speaking in team chat because if you say something that somebody disagrees with you're more than likely to be reported for leeching, thus, dishonorable.

i think your problem here is you're trying to make sense out of the whole "points" system. you know as well as everyone else it doesn't make sense, and rather than fixing griefing and leaving problems in PvP it's another severely annoying, miserable feature to burden our playing. you just have to abide by the ridiculous standards set to avoid dishonorable and you'll be straight. if worst comes to worst, and you find that ill-favored hex on yourself, just do what i do and go grab a cookie and play a better game for a few minutes.... while critically reflecting upon the evil deeds you've done to earn such a penalty, of course of course.

Yea, I remember someone saying something like that last night in JQ. Perhaps it was OP. Anyway, the dishonor system is indeed flawed but I've used it whenever I notice a leecher. And I only do it when I see for myself that the person is leeching.

I know it's been discussed to death before about the system and I'm of the mind that the punishment should be a bit different. I think the rewards should be taken away as well as some playtime. Hit leechers where it hurts...in the faction/balth rewards pocket. It would still require players to report but at least leechers wouldn't be able to rake in the faction from the match they just leeched in even though they'll get the hex after it.

I'd also like to see an implementation where if say 3 out of 4 peeps resign then it's actually ok to leave without any punishment. That way the shadow-stepping sin can keep doing his stuff...only now his teammates can leave without any issues. Call it the 75% resign clause. 6/8 or 3/4 resigning allows those players to leave with no punishment. Just my 2 pesos...I could be wrong.

It's weird. I have many many times reported a player for leeching and no other players reported him, but I have never gotten DH myself.

You are given dishonorable status after getting 10 dishonorable points (which makes it a bit weird that the op got dh after only 1 dc (5 points)and 1 report (2 points) - is it possible to report dced players?). So you would need to report 5 leechers in a period of time less then 5h to get the dh status by just reporting. Perhalphs it simply never happened to you to report them so often.
